What is the name of this arcade racing game?
I played it in the early 90’s. It was a game you sit down in. You had a steering wheel (obviously) and a gear shift for Low & High. I think the player drove a red Indy style car and you start in 100th position. You must pass cars and rise in rank to qualify for the next stage. If you bump into othr cars/objects too much, your car starts to smoke and eventually is on fire. To fix it you could “Pit In” and somone with a fire extinguisher puts out the fire. (Similar occurrence with the tires. Too much bumping, pit in to change tires.) I think it was from Taito.

Taito did have a racing game but it was called Chase H.Q. released in 1988 but the main character is a police officer… so it doesn’t have the red indy style car.Pole Position came out in 1982 (Namco) and Pole Position 2 came out in 1983 so they were both too early to fit your “early 90’s” timeline.I’m really thinking its Daytona USA.. I hope this helps..maybe if you see the name you’ll remember.
