What happens when you use an expired fire extinguisher?
ive got a fire extinguisher that expired in 1995, ive already replaced it, but want to know if i can have any fun with the old one before disposing of it. Are there any dangers of seeing what will happen when i pull the trigger of a 15 year old fire extinguisher?
There is no danger as long as you aren’t looking down the nozzle when you trip the trigger. It is very likely nothing will happen. If it hasn’t been serviced for fifteen years the propellant has probably dissipated or the powder has settled and packed and won’t move. At any rate, if it does work you will just have powder everywhere. If there was any danger, it would be right now. The canister is more dangerous when it’s pressurized than when you discharge it.
