Any suggestions for H.S. Freshman football player who’s breaking out in hives due to grass allergy?
So, I’m wondering if any one has suggestions. My son started H.S. football this week (on the grass field) and everyday he complained that the grass was making him itchy and giving him a stuffy nose and then on day 4 he broke out in hives. He does has seasonal allergies. It’s now Saturday and next practice isn’t until Monday. I can keep the hives at bay if I give him Benadryl but it totally wipes him out. Also, he’s been practicing in shorts since that is the team gear and it has been over 100 degrees every day at practice. I am planning on getting him some under armor leggings to at least keep the grass and pollen off his legs.
He has played on grass in previous years and has not had a problem but this is his first time on the H.S. field. Anybody have any suggestions for someone playing football who has grass allergies?
Don’t use Benadryl. That wipes me out too and keeps me bed ridden.
I have used Allegra before. It was prescribed by my doctor and gave me no ill effects. No dizziness, weakness, or anything.
I was looking at a over the counter box of Claritin and it appears to have the same active ingredients as Allegra but in smaller dosages. I use Claritin now and it works well.
I am not telling you what to do, but I am telling you what works for me. I would recommend having having him see a doctor first to see if it could be something else. You never know.
