Oil furnace tripping primary reset button?
Rheem oil furnace, beckett motor. Reset is tripping on primary control . #2 fuel oil tanks in basement full new nozzle and filters, happened to be at furnace 1 time when furnace tripped reset could hear humming from around motor or primary control, could not tell which, tapped side of motor with palm before reset tripped, started right up. Very intermittent problem may run days and not trip or may trip every other try. Have replaced motor and primary control still tripping, do not know if it is still making humming noise never at furnace when primary trips. Could it be oil pump having a flat spot or locking up that is only thing left that motor drives to cause humming and tripping reset, if it is still humming? After reset starts every time. Do not think it is electric eye because the 1 time I was at furnace and heard humming noise furnace did not try to start or fire.
Terry it sounds like oil pump could be locking up because if motor was replaced it should start right up and not hum.Haven’t run into to this too much but it looks like you’ve covered every thing.
