Police Officers: Best Preparation for L.E. SWAT Team?

Getting ready to start a L.E. Academy. After that, about 1 year on the street and I can begin to apply for the SOT (our “SWAT”) team. What can I do to prepare for the team?
I know I have to concentrate on good basic L.E. skills, that is a given. PT (lots of it), obviously. I shoot pretty regularly, but any particular shooting exercises would help.
I do have a pretty long Tactical Background (U.S. Marines, Small Teams, Tactical Instructor, Prior L.E. Training). I do know a few of the guys on the team (I currently run as thier Paramedic on certain ops), but a this point at least, don’t won’t to overuse my welcome, beyond s few questions here and there.

There are a few qualifications that are universal to all SOT/SWAT/TRU etc. teams …

- top physical condition including vision
- excellent marksmanship
- a few years regular police service
- stable personal life (i.e. does not affect your job)
- excellent work record (performance reviews) including demonstrated ability to obey orders
- no known overuse of alcohol
