How to calculate total power requirements for a surveillance system?
I plan on upgrading my surveillance system. However I’m pretty sure the power distribution box now can not handle the new cameras I am intending to buy. How do I calculate that amount so that I can make the smart choice in purchasing the correct item.
Just sum the max power of all cameras. If you have a camera without a specified power, just multiply current * voltage.
Apart from power requirement, you can also calculate the storage space for video archive and network bandwidth (in case of IP video) for that you can use a tool called CCTV Design Tool.
