Did you see in Yahoo! news a new key?
Interferes with cell phone & texting signals. So anyone who uses the key can’t talk or text. They are aiming it for teens.
I think, if the technology exists to mass produce this product, that it should be required by law for vehicles mfgd after 2009.
Does anyone know where to buy it now?

It good and bad both.
Good= Does prohibit cell phone use while driving.
Bad= It also prohibits the person from being able to call 911 in an emergency since it is blocking their ability to use their cellphone.
I would much rather see a teen driver that has some nutcase following or chasing them driving away from the threat while talking to 911 instead of having to stop & shut off their vehicle so the block will disengage to allow them to call 911 & then be a stationary target for their attacker to get to easily.
This may cause more problems than it solves until a way is figured out so emergency calls can still be made while the car is running or the key is still in the ignition & I hope it isn’t marketed until that issue is resolved.
I really doubt that the company that manufactures those keys will survive a law suit from the parents & other victim rights groups of the first teen rape that occurs because she wasn’t able to call 911 due to this “wonderful safety device” blocking her use of her cell when she gets attacked in her vehicle.
Edit: The article does say that the driver can still call pre-programmed numbers. There are still people that haven’t mastered programming their VCR’s, VM or speed dial on their cellphones. So if the parents do not know how to program the device, it will not allow any calls from the teens cell. Also, it is a Bluetooth device. The cell phone salespeople will love this. It is going to force parents that did not buy their son or daughter a Bluetooth compatible phone to replace the phone with one that is. Also being a Bluetooth device, it can be deactivated on the phone it is connected to. I have Bluetooth on my cell & have the earbud. All I need to do is disconnect the device from the menu on the phone & now it’s deactivated. And there are a lot of intelligent teens that will be able to have the device deactivated within seconds of getting in the car. But I agree, it can be a good safety device when used & programmed correctly.
Also, I don’t think it should be required by law. It is the parents responsibility to take care of their children, not the governments or any law. And we really don’t need any more laws that continue to relieve the parent of their responsibility of raising their own children.
