How Roofing Tools Can Drive Up the Roof Replacement Cost for Do-It-Yourselfers
Roofing a house is a difficult task for any do-it-yourself remodeler, and it can be quite expensive if you are not prepared to do the job. However, if you do it yourself you will also have to have special tools, some of them very pricey, which could drive up your roof replacement cost.
First, you will need extension ladders just to get on the roof. If all you have is 6 foot ladders, you will not be equipped to work at the height of your roof. Depending on whether your home is a one- or two-story house, you might need a 10 to 15 foot extension ladder, or a 30 to 40 foot extension ladder. If the roof of your house has a very steep pitch, you will need ladder jacks to hold the toe boards used to keep you upright on the roof. Every roof replacement cost related to ladders is essential to the success of the project and to your safety.
There are a few less expensive tools that you might use, but it is best if you get them new just for the roofing project. Even if you have a utility knife you can use, you will need special hook blades to do the work of cutting through the tiles when you need to do so. You must have a caulking gun, as well, and one that is clean and not damaged by overuse. You might have a pry bar you can use for removing materials carefully, but if you do not have one, you will have to buy it. Even these small tools will add to your roof replacement cost.
One of the most expensive roof replacement cost items is the pneumatic roofing nailer. To use it, you will need to buy an air compressor – not a cheap purchase in any way. The pneumatic roofing nailer is an expensive buy, and includes an air hose and a roofing gun which work together with the compressor to force nails from a preloaded strip through the shingles and into the roof.
You will need a roofing hammer as well. This item is a very special tool, designed specifically to be used in roofing houses. You will have to purchase one to roof your house, but if you do not roof another house you are not likely to ever use it again.
A circular saw, on the other hand, is a good investment for most do-it-yourself remodelers. You just might not be ready to purchase one at the same time as you are buying all the supplies and other tools you need to roof your house. You will need it to cut shingles, plywood, and other roofing materials, so it will not do to hold off on spending the money for this roof replacement cost.
When you consider all the tools you need to do a good roofing job, you will realize that a home remodeling company with their own equipment has some major advantages. They will be able to work on your roof and keep the roof replacement cost down because they come prepared.
