What chemical is used in Red Comet Fire Extinguishers that removes all of the oxygen from the room?
Red Comet Fire Extinguishers now use either Carbon Dioxide (CO2) gas or dry powder, they used to use glass grenades which were thrown into a room or at the base of the fire, these contained Carbon Tetrachloride (CTC) which forms a quite toxic gas when in contact with fire, and is very dangerous in confined places.
I remember when I first learned about fire extinguishers in the RAF in the late 60’s they were still use then, they were also very popular in transport vehicles because they could be used on electrical as well as liquid fires.
