100 led or 150 lumens?
I am going on a hiking trip this weekend and I need a good flashlight. The choice is between a 100 led flashlight or a flashlight that has a rating of 150 lumens.
Which one would be brighter and light up a larger surface area?
Thats all the information I know about the flashlights. If you have a flashlight you recommend just leave the model number for me.
Why do you need such a strong flashlight on a hiking trip?
If you want to use a light while walking, it should be a low level light, just enough to light the path just in front of you but not too bright, as you will not be able to see anything beyond the light. In that case you might even go for a light with a colour patch, so you can dim the light and still be able to see things outside the lighted circle.
For your campsite, think about getting a lantern kind of light, a few leds or a bulb will do, not much light needed to prepare your food.
The only reason you need a very bright light is to signal with, and only to signal for help when stuck on a mountain, and for that you will need to know the regular distress signals in your area, if they do exist.
Which flashlight lights a bigger area depends on the lens more than on the kind of lights.
A 10 led lights lamp will be able to blind you temporary, with a good battery behind it, specially if there is a lens on it concentrating the light to one point.
On the other hand, a lantern led lamp can light a whole campsite with a few leds if it is positioned in the right spot but will not be as effective for walking.
