Those are quite similar to moccasins and scottish/irish ghillie shoes and there are several sites that have instructions in the basics of making moccasins and ghillies. Leather is the best for shoes, boots and other footwear as leather is all natural, eco-friendly and authentic. Plastic leather (all fake leathers, faux leathers, vegan leathers and pleathers are nothing more than plastic) will look cheap, make your feet and legs clammy, uncomfortable, sweaty and smelly especially if you wear then every day -and they aren’t authentic looking. Additionally, real leather is easier to work with and sew, more durable and long lasting and it simply looks better. You’ll be much happier with real leather footwear. if you are investing the time and money in making handcrafted shoes then use the best materials available, it’s a worthy investment.

There won’t be an exact pattern with the exact instructions for the exact pair in the picture, but with a little improvising and imagination you should be able to understand how early shoes were made and how to adapt these methods to suit your idea.
