Help with a ‘Hospital Safety’ question? Anyone who works in a hospital?
1. Tony, a volunteer transporter, is picking up specimen tubes and containers and taking them to the Lab. Tony needs to use the following PPE to reduce his risk of contamination:
a. Scrubs and lab coat
b. Lab coat
c. Gloves
d. Mask only
*I think it’s a, but I’m not sure if volunteers get to wear scrubs on duty..
Specimen tubes should be sealed and also put into plastic bags to avoid contamination. There should be no contact with the volunteer or the person in the lab who will work with the specimen. Mask, gloves should not be necessary. Volunteers are usually supplied with a lab coat of sorts to go over their street clothes. scrubs are not needed.The lab coat is left at the hospital. I have worked in the lab and on the floors collecting specimen.
