Two Types of Fire Hose Reels – The Swing Type and the Continuous Hose Reel
There are many types of fire-fighting devices that can be very useful in combating a fire. There are those that are responsible for stopping fire in their early stages such as fire extinguishers and fire blankets. On the other hand, there are also fire hose reels that can assist in extinguishing a fire before it expands and creates further damage in surroundings areas.
Basically, a fire hose reel is a device that provides a reasonably accessible and controlled water supply to fight off a potential fire risk. It is designed to deliver a minimum of 0.33L of water per second. There is a control nozzle which is attached to the end of the hose which enables the operator to control the flow and the direction of the water. This device is essential especially in high buildings and business establishments.
They have two main types. These are the swing type and the continuous hose reel.
•The Swing type.
The swing type has a 30m standard length and is red in color. It is designed and tested to BSEN 671 for its performance, reliability and ease of installation. These units are tested to 20 bar without any sign of visible distortion or leakage in any part. They can also be used without alternation for mounting with inlet to the left or right of the reel.
•The Continuous hose reel
On the other hand, It is designed for the continuous and immediate flow of water at all times. This process eliminates the need to unwind the hose before it is activated or used. These types of units are intended to be used with a non-collapsible hose and fitted with a spray nozzle. A continuous can either be a fixed or a portable continuous. The only difference between these two is that the portable can be easily wheeled into any location where fire has erupted. It is also recommended to fit a flexible connection between swivel joints and inlet pipe to avoid damages.
These devices are important to any building if fire safety and protection is your main priority. Just like any other type of fire fighting equipment, it also needs to be properly manipulated and taken cared of. It is imperative that this device is always handled with care.
