Is it safe for a 12V Halogen bulb?
I’m looking to modify my flashlight to use a halogen bulb. How many volts should I apply if the bulb was rated at12V 20W? Should it be 15 volts or just 12 volts? Would 9.6 volts be efficient?
I meant to say – Would 9.6 volts be ’sufficient’, not ‘efficient’.
P = I x E
I = P / E 20W / 12V = 1.7 A
Be sure your batteries can deliver that much current for a reasonable amount of time.
Also, light output of an incandescent bulb is quite dependent on the voltage across the bulb. 9.6V is not good if it is the starting point for further voltage decrease as the battery is exhausted.
Have you considered a LED light?
