So I’m going on a 4 day hike, and I have a question about boots.?
I have HAIX Duty Boots with the goretex lining, so I figure I would be okay wearing these. I have never been hiking before though, and I’m pretty much scaling a mountain in West Virginia for 2 days, then coming back down. Anyone have any insight on whether or not this is a good or bad idea? I’m really not looking into spending another $200+ on boots for one weekend, but at the same time I don’t want to be miserable the whole time.
A new pair of boots is one of the most difficult and useful pieces of hiking equipment. If lucky, they fit and wear perfectly and you are all set. For the other 99.9% cases, you’ll have to break them in and verify they’ll wear well.
You didn’t mention how long there is before your trip, but ideally it is best to start small today. Wear them around home, to the grocery store, etc. Gradually work up to wearing them the majority of the day. If possible, go on a short day hike in the next few days. Then you’ll know if they’ll work.

Yep. Hiking boots change shape and wear with use. You won’t know how your foot and boot will respond to each other until after many thousands of steps. I’ve learned this the hard way—twice.
