i have a 306 dturbo Problem?
i think i made a fatal mistake today i got in my 1998 306 dturbo and went to start it it made a loud grinding noise as i turned it over it fired but then died i tried again still with a grinding noise it fired and carried on running the grinding soon went and sounded normal about 5 mins later as i was halfway up an A road i noticed my temp gauge had shot up so i slowed down slightly and came to a round about when i changed gear the engine cut out so i bumped it and it was ok, i decided to turn back and go home but as i went round one corner the engine cut out and i was unable to bump it in time so i was stuck in the road at a junction and when i went to turn the key it just whines but no noise in starting the engine a couple of factors are
1. it was a very cold day today
2.i had no antifreeze (very big mistake) and ironic thing was thats what i was goin out to get
3. the heaters just blow cold
The cooling system is virtually completely frozen.
The consequences of driving it like this can be many and enough to make an 11 year old car not worth mending. Sounds like yours has suffered some localised overheating due to non-circulation of coolant and has almost certainly started the journey to car heaven.
It may well have split the radiator, cracked the block and forced out a core plug or two. I bet you will be very careful to always use antifreeze in the future to avoid killing your cars.
