Can you predict where a bullet will fire and deflect it like that?
I saw someone on yahoo answers that asked if a sword can deflect a bullet, and then I read how others didn’t give the guy justice. I saw a video from a Japanese t.v. show that showed a katana posted in place that was fired at and the bullet split in two! So, here is my question: has anyone ever trained to predict the path of a bullet taking into account the position the gun is held? That seems more plausible than a person trying to track a bullet when its fired and deflect it. Just train yourself to predict a bullet’s projectory by where the barrel is pointing.
It can happen, but its a one in a billion chance. It depends on the shape of the bullet and position of the sword. If the sword is at the right angle and the curved part of the bullet hits the blade it can ricochet off. I also have seen a bullet split in two, it was on an American show called “Weapon Masters.” They tried to create a better katana, the traditional and new both had a bullet shot at it and they cut it through, however the traditional one didn’t have a metal as strong as the new one and was badly nicked.
People have probably tried, but I can guarantee you they weren’t successful. Being able to find the bullets path is unlikely.
A bullet doesn’t fire in a straight line. There is something called a cold bore shot, meaning the gun wasn’t fired before and the barrel is cool. If the barrel is cool it wraps the bullet tighter, because the metal hasn’t expanded from the heat of a firing. After that it depends on how many times the gun was fired. The more its fired the hotter the barrel gets and doesn’t “hug” the bullet. There is a difference between your first and second shots placement, because of a cold bore. The less tight a barrel is the less accurate it is. The accuracy of the type of gun is also a facter, for example, a Berretta M9 may be more accurate than a Colt M1911. Distance is also a factor, bullets don’t keep a level flight forever, they fall in their arch of flight, to a certain distance a gun won’t be effective. Wind also can move a bullets flight path. It also depends on the gun, if they are shooting at you with a high caliber armor piercing weapon a sword won’t stop the bullet. If its a small handgun caliber round the sword can deflect it.
A human eye, at least the average human, can’t predict the exact nanometer placement. Its something you only hear about in movies. A human just can’t find the path in a split second, like it would be if this was ever used, even if the gun had a perfectly straight trajectory. Another human error would be keeping the sword absolutly still. Even if its in place it must be perfectly still, a feat most humans cannot accomplish.
The chances of that happening are next to none. There are too many variables to take into account, let alone figure it all out while at gun point and position your sword to stop it. All the variables have to add up perfectly, and the chances of that, are virtually zero.
As was stated before, the best block is to not be there. If someone points a gun at you and you try to deflect it with a sword its pure stupidity. Get out of the way. It also breaks the law of not bringing a knife to a gun fight.
