capacitor power and safety?
i own lots of electrical components,parts i build projects
i have been building a coil gun i ordered the parts ,the capacitor
was bigger than expected and more powerfull i test fired it and the coil vaporized and the tv is messed up. so the power supply took 40 minutes to reach 178 volts and i wanted it to be portable how do
you charge it fast (30 seconds or less) it is a 400VDC 12000mf
capacitor? and what would happen if a human were to come in contact with the capacitor when it was fully charged? it has a 960 Joules
of energy according the calculations done.
It’s probably actually 12,000 µF, not mF. Capacitor manufacturers do not use standard SI prefixes for some strange reason.
Your first question is on charging speed. That all depends on the power supply charging it. A 1 amp supply will charge it in 5 seconds. A 10 amps supply in 1/2 second. Portable is more difficult. It depends on how much weight you want to carry.
400 volts, or 178 volts can be lethal.
I calculate 190 Joules. The 960J is only if you charge it to 400 volts.
