Going back to Air National Guard after 7yr break?
I’m am reenlisting, I have 6 years in and will have 20 by 55, my asvab scores recalculated qualified me for loadmaster and I’m going for it. I take my physical at MEPS next week, my prior afsc was fire protection specialist. What can I expect? is there a particular base for loadmaster training? my home unit uses C-130. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Good on you for coming back in! Loadmaster is a great job as any aircrew job in the USAF will be good to you. Wait until you do your first cargo drop or troop drop(HALO and static line jumps). It is quite an experience and at that point you will see how everything you train for comes together. I am not a load or aircrew(cannot pass Class II Physical because of eyes), but work with them a lot being in the job I am in the ANG(Flight Equipment).
You will go to the Aircrew Fundamentals course and Basic Loadmaster course(at Medina Annex at Lackland AFB), and then to your Initial qualification Course at Little Rock, Arkansas. Sometime in the mix you will attend water survival school in Pensacola, FL and Combat Survival in Spokane, Washington. I have a good friend who is a Herc Load and he loves it. Have fun in your training, you will go in TDY status the whole time as you are prior-service so its class and your time the rest of the day.
