What firearm/lock/mounting setup works with the accessibility of a home fire-extinguisher, but SAFER?
A fire extinguisher you want accessible to everybody who can get to it in case of fire, but not so with a shotgun or pistol with stopping power: so, what? Do you keep a gun cabinet key around your neck? Is there a standard existing format one size fits all/most? Have major manufacturers knocked heads and addressed this?
Obviously gun safety training is mandatory, with the idea that personal/household firearm ownership become more widespread to deter crime…..
Even fire extinguisher standards are not kept impeccable in most households: how to do that with tools capable of deadly force?
I ask this as an ignorant non-gun owner who nevertheless believes in the right to bear arms responsibly…
Two methods – teaching and practicing responsible ownership – are extremely effective.
I think every household needs both. If a gun is carelessly left out then you at least have educated family members who know how to use it and the damage it can do. These days, because people are busy being distracted with all kinds a gun lock usually works.
Yes, it does give you keys to worry about. No one should ever be in a house with a gun though and not know when and how to use it. Locks when used by responsible people in educated households are the most effective.
