Sometimes It Is Better To Wish That Fire Safety Extinguishers Can Remain On The Walls
Fire safety extinguishers are not always helpful all the time and in all situations. You should know the right extinguisher to use because if you use the wrong one, you just might make matters worse. There are safety signs on fire extinguishers that you should take note of before using them. Emergencies can cloud your thinking process most of the time but sometimes you just really have to focus if you want to save your own life.
Different kinds of fire safety extinguishers are for different types of fires. Not all fires are fueled by the same element. Group A fuels are any non-metal combustible object like paper, wood, plastic and trash. The water fire extinguisher is right for fires that are fueled by these elements. The dry chemical extinguisher labeled “ABC” can also be used to put out this kind of fire.
If non-metal, flammable liquids fuel the fire, water fire safety extinguishers should not be used because it might just make matters worse. Check the safety signs on a dry chemical extinguisher and if it says “ABC” or “BC”, then you can use it to put out this kind of fire. The carbon dioxide fire extinguisher made of yellow powder can also be used in this case.
The carbon dioxide and the dry chemical extinguisher can put out fires fueled by electrical equipment. Never use the water fire extinguisher because if can electrocute you. Water is a good conductor so any charged particle that touches the water can flow freely to the part of your body that is submerged in the same pool of water.
To find out how to use the fire extinguisher, you just need to remember to “pass”. This means Pull the pin, Aim at the fire, Squeeze the handle at the top and Sweep the fire extinguisher from side to side until the fire is put out.
Pulling the pin discharges the extinguisher. When you aim at the fire, make sure you aim at the base. If you aim right at the flames, it will just go through it. To really put out the fire, you should start from the base. When you squeeze the lever, this releases the contents of the fire extinguisher. When you sweep from side to side, it might be a good idea to start from a distance. Keep sweeping side to side until the fire dies out. As the fire dies out, you can come closer and closer while still sweeping. Make sure that nothing re-ignites to make sure that the fire is completely dead.
Watching out for safety signs can save your life. It adds to your knowledge of safety precautions and it also guides you as to what to do during urgent fire situations. These signs are there for a reason and it would help you a lot if you find out about their meaning and purpose. Signs on fire extinguishers are also present to let you know which one to use in specific situations and circumstances.
