Why do you need a special fire extinguisher for cars?
We went to the hospital yesterday and as we were walking in, I noticed there were two fire extinguisher, 1 was the regular red one, and the other was chrome an said “Cars Only”. Is there a specific reason they needed one for just cars?
The silver one is a power type extinguishing agent. The red one is most likely a water or other fluid type.
Cars have fluids that burn, ie gas, diesel and oils. If you try to use a fluid type extinguisher you would just spread the fire by spreading out the fluid.
The power types are more exspensive and usually caustic and poisonous. You could use that to extinguish most types of fires, but the building manage prefers it for automotive fires and labeled it Cars Only.
