Fiat would reportedly get a 35% stake in Chrysler in exchange for letting the Detroit giant use its engine technology and build cars based on Fiat designs. Fiat also would have the option to buy an additional 20% of Chrysler after 12 months for the fire-sale price of $25 million. It would take at least a year for Chrysler to retool to build Fiat cars, and Fiat, which abandoned the U.S. market in 1983, hasn’t demonstrated the ability to make cars that Americans value.
Since they are deciding to give 34% of the company (with an option to get another 20% later) to Fiat right after obtaining the “loan” from us do you want your money back? How do you feel about supporting an American Automaker that will be majority owned by foreign companies?
Yea, and the cars with Mitsubishi drivetrains lasted longer. Same with GM and Toyota.
Chrysler was bailed out by the government by buying their cars for use in the military and civilian government fleet.
Fiats suck, I don’t see an advantage there.
If the UAW wouldn’t have had wages driven thru the roof, the American auto makers could have put better quality parts in the cars they made. Since so much money went to the workers, what was left over was used to make up or buy cheap parts, which is why American cars are always breaking down.
