How often should I replace my dry powder fire extinguisher for my car and what to do with the old one,Thank you and have a safe and happy Christmas.
They don’t always have to be replaced on a set schedule. The dry chem I’ve had in my truck for 5+yrs is still fine. As long as it maintains pressure and is clean it will be ok. I check the pressure gauge every 3months and shake it to make sure the chemical is still loose. If it looses pressure it can be re-pressurized. If used it can be refilled.
There are companies that service fire extinguishers- inspect, repair, recharge, refill, etc, along with other fire safety gear. Most have a location where you can buy an extinguisher, take it in for yearly inspections, etc. They also will take damaged/irreparable ones for recycling- the metal and dry chem can be recycled.
