Can I cut all my aluminum door?
I bought 2 pre-hung exterior doors for my house. The back door was found to a project because the stoop outside (concrete) was built in the door. This posed a problem because of the belt that was already there (oak) was my only option rather Using the nice aluminum is already built into the door, I had to cut under my door about 3 / 4 ". Then I had to demolish the existing oak leaves up to to about 1/2-2/3 of its original thickness. The door works fine, but I have to do this to my front door, too, because it bend down to the concrete in construction. So what I want to do is the method I have used in the past, to a pre-hung interior door into an existing open something that is less fit, and the the whole thing off (frame and door) cut. But I can with my aluminum door, what type of saw / blade would I use? I know I can Remove the wing then reinstall. I would hate to do a hack job, but want the sash that comes with it to use. Any suggestions?
I cut foam filled exterior metal doors down occasionally, it's not that hard. Each blade will work (on a skill saw), if not the trash. Each new blad sharp enough. To feel safe, put the door on a few horses saw the sandwich section with a few pieces of thin material, 3/8ths position as rags. Secure with clamps and pull the line on the top of the scrap. Cut with skill saw coming, should be clean. Then with a chisel, gouge each foam up to about 3 / 4 "from the new section. Rip 3 / 4" thick piece of wood on a 11/16Th 's, or whatever fits into the bottom of the door, and nail to the edges. Re / attach rubber strips down the use of silicon and pins, and hang the door.
