Use of Cleaning Products while Pregnant?
This June, we are expecting our first child (a boy), and have decided to use this coming weekend to set up our nursery since we will have the extra holiday Monday off from work. As such, I have spent this entire week scrubbing our home from top to bottom in preparation for this monumental event. That is to say, I have been in direct chemical-to-skin and breathing room contact with the typical host of household products, such as bleach, Mr. Clean, Fantastic, SOS pads, etc. for an average of 6 + hourse each of the last 5 days. Stupidly, I did not wear gloves, and only last night did I finally think to google cleaning safety tips for pregnant women to find that I should have been WAY more careful. Now I am terrified that I may have caused harm to my developing baby. As of today, I will be 22 weeks along. Can anyone please offer me some much needed reassurance and/or advice on this topic until I am able to contact my doctor later this morning?
yes you should have looked this up before you started scrubbing. that being said your baby is probably fine, just do not do this any more or frequently. there are so many organic and safe cleaning products today – there is no reason why you should use the really harsh ones you described. I stopped using them a while ago just for myself and my husband, even before I was pregnant. try these:
