When gloves, paint, handles, etc. say “chemically resistant”, what typical chemicals do they include?
I’m looking at these products are trying to determine what chemicals they typically refer to. I would guess bleach and sodium hydroxide as well as acids like nitric acid and hydrochloric acid. Are there any other typical ones that usually come into play? I realize it depends on the plant and their product, but I am just trying to get an idea. Thanks!
A very good question. The answer is that different materials are resistant to different chemicals, and to different degrees. The gloves that come with home hair color kits are resistant to peroxide, but not to acetone (which eats right through the gloves in a minute!). Materials that are resistant to inorganic acids and bases (like HCl or HNO3) are much less resistant to organic solvents.
The best thing to do is, visit a good local hardware store. On the wall will be a chart detailing which gloves to use for which jobs.
