why do safety certified flashlights require vacuum bulbs?
i have a bright star 2217 permissible flashlight. it is designed for use in potentially explosive atmospheres such as coal mines, grain silos, below deck on a boat. printed on the tube it states that you must only use a PR2 or PR6 bulb. i know that those are vacuum, flange based bulbs designed to run off the current of 2 D sized batteries. my question is what would make a krypton or xenon filled bulbs potentially dangerous? i ‘ve always wondered that so could someone explain it to me.
No such thing as a vacuum filed bulb. They are filled with nitrogen or argon or some other inert gas.
krypton or xenon bulbs get a lot hotter on the outside surface than does a normal incandescent bulb.
