What apparatus do I use to breathe safely while replacing the insulation in my asbestos attic?
I’m thinking a face-mask with a one-way-in and a one-way-out valve, with a long tube on the intake so you can have it take in air from the outside. What do I use? Additionally, what other specialty equipment will protect me from asbestos?
Here’s the routine if you want to replace the blown in insulation in your attic. Get a Tyvek jumpsuit, a good dust mask and a pair of goggles or glasses and a ball cap. The insulation can usually be sucked out using a drum sized shop vac or a vac designed for the purpose. The removal will take a lot longer than the re insulation.
As noted, I’m not aware that asbestos was ever used in loose form as residential insulation. If you have questions or doubts, have a pro come out with the right equipment and save yourself the aggravation.
