Autograph On Black Boxing Gloves?
What type of pen or sharpie works great on Black Boxing Gloves to get autographed my friend is going to meet Roy Jones Jr and wants to get his autograph.
Any good Metallic pens that work good?
As an avid autograph collector, I have to ask more about these black boxing gloves. Are they real? Are they vinyl? Are they “autograph” gloves?
A quality Silver Sharpie will work fine on all of these, but storage and presentation is the problem. A vinyl glove, if not properly stored out of sunlight will fade badly. . . . a lesson I learned after “losing” the signature of Marvin Hagler on some black gloves very slowly over three years.
If they are real boxing gloves (leather) I’d still keep them out of the light to minimize fading.
Stay away from gold markers of any kind. They look nice at first, but they fade badly (especially on real leather). The story I could tell you about a leather speedbag I had would make you cry. It had six heavyweight champions on it, including Ali, Norton, Patterson, Frazier, Foreman, and Spinks. . . I thought gold would be perfect, since most of these men were also gold medalists before they were champions. A year later, Patterson, Frazier, and Ali’s signatures were completely gone, with Foreman’s sig looking like a “mistake” when only a year prior it had looked sterling. What a heartbreak.
Also, lots of sites sell signed gloves with certificates of authenticity. I find that the best “coa” is always a photo of the fighter holding the gloves, signing them, looking at the camera if possible. It’s not iron-clad . . . but it helps. Good luck. I’ve met Roy several times. He’s great with signatures.
