how can I monitor ck spending?
My daughter is in college. To make her travels easier I purchased 5 $100 amerex travelers cks. I neglected to copy the #s down and do not know how I will know if or when they were cashed. If she deposits them into her account won’t that show up on my amerx statement. This is six months ago and she said that she only had 2. she never questioned me because that is all she thought I gave her. Now she needs money and the funds aren’t there. any thoughts on how to track the other three?
I signed my name in both places, left pay to blank for her to make it out to herself for deposit, I then put these in an envelope and just enclosed an endearing note to spend wisely, that went into her suitcase, where she said it stayed until yesterday. These have no expiration date. And a little white fib is possible. That is why I need to know how to determain if these have been cashed…
The office where you bought the cheques may be able to give you those numbers. When you bought these five cheques and charged them to your American Express account you would have only seen the $500.00 appear there. When those cheques are used this would not again appear on your statement.
When you posted these five cheques to your daughter, did you register the letter? If so you may have some recourse through the post office, although the time lapse could be a problem.
It seems strange that your daughter only received two of the five. This means that somebody opened the letter and took out three. This does not make sense, why would they have not taken all of the five cheques? These cheques are normally cashable by anybody, unless they have been presigned by you and then only you can cash them by signing a second time in front of the cashier at a branch.
Strange that your daughter did not acknowledge the receipt of the five cheques in the first instance, or that you did not include a note with the cheques stating how much you had sent her on that occasion.
Could it be that your daughter has over spent and is really in need of further funds, or lost three cheques, but is too embarassed to ask for more and thought this may overcome the problem ( a little white lie). Is it really worth worrying about now?
The immediate problem is that your daughter needs funds as you say. If you do not send her the money, what will she do?
