Would you want to be an EMT Paramedic (Ambulance Driver)?
I have been thinking about it a lot lately and I thought it would be the perfect job for me. Employment outlook is excellent and will grow in 2014. Salary is about 25,000$ a year (is that good) I’m only 17. I don’t need to go to college. What do you guys think about this career?
My husband is a firefighter/paramedic in our city. It is an excellent field to get into, but as the first poster mentioned, the job can be very stressful at times. He works a 24 hour shift and at times on very little sleep. It is a rewarding career, however, as he has had the opportunity to save many lives, assist people who are extremely sick and even deliver a few babies.
EMT training is required for all firefighters in our city, but they can go a step further and receive their paramedic certification which requires more knowledge in the medical field than EMT training. His first year as a rookie the salary was around $27K, but it does get better with more certifications and time in the field.
Our city does require that prospective FF/EMT/Paramedic have a college degree or military training. Might be in your best interest to go to school, even if the EMT career path does not suit you.
