Please Help! I have been working on these problems literally all day and I still dont understand them.?
1. A diver springs upward from a board that is three meters above the water. At the instant she contacts the water her speed is 9.20 m/s and her body makes an angle of 71.0° with respect to the horizontal surface of the water. Determine her initial velocity, both magnitude and direction.
I got the intial velocity (which is 5.08 m/s) but I cannot figure out how to get the direction in degrees.
2. Water from a garden hose that is pointed 23° above the horizontal lands directly on a sunbather lying on the ground 4.3 m away in the horizontal direction. If the hose is held 1.4 m above the ground, at what speed does the water leave the nozzle?
I dont understand how to do this problem at all. Please help!

The X (horizontal) component of the velocity is cos 71.0 x 9.2 m/s
The horizontal component is the same on take-off.
The angle is the arc tangent of the vertical component over the horizontal component.
V(y) = sin 71 x 9.2 = 8.7 m/s
V(y) = at, a = 9.8 m/s^2, t = time from the top of the flight
t= ( 8.7 /9.8) sec =0.89 sec
D = height at the top of the flight to the water = 1/2at^2
9.8 x 0.89 m = 3.86 m
d = height at the top of the flight to the board = 3.86-3=0.86 m
d = 1/2 aT^2, where T = the time to the top of the flight from the board.
0.86 = 1/2aT^2, T = 0.42 sec
V(y-init) = at = 9.8 x 0.18 = 4.1 m/s
V(x-init) = V (x-final) = cos 71 x 9.2 = 3.0 m/s
V (total) = sqrt ((V(x-int))^2 + (V(y-init))^2) = 5.1 m/s
Angle= arc tan (4.1/3.0) = 53.8 degrees
